Put your skills to the test in the MPG Challenge! The MPG Challenge is a friendly competition that Green Drive Expo Members can compete in, pitting themselves against others to see who can use the least amount of fuel on a open course route. Every year the "best of the best" show up to prove what they can do! But don't let that prevent you from entering; plenty of first timers try it out so they can compare themselves against the experts. Check out a brief article with results from the Green Drive Expo MPG Challenge 2009. Download a spreadsheet of the results from the Green Drive Expo MPG Challenge 2009. Entrants must be Green Drive Expo Members, and must choose the option to participate in the MPG Challenge when they register. The number of entrants will be limited. Register early to guarantee a spot. The 2010 Green Drive Expo MPG Challenge will be held Friday, July 16; check-in begins at noon. Awards will be presented at approximately 7:30 p.m., as part of the Friday evening Ice Cream Social for Green Drive Expo members. Details Drivers check-in at noon, drivers meeting at 12:30 p.m. The first car will head out on the route at 1 p.m. and the last car will return by 5:15 p.m. For reference here is a map of last year's MPG Challenge 2009 course. To rule out excessively slow driving (or speeding), maximum and minimum course time limits will be enforced. Drivers who stay at or near the posted speed limits will return well within these time limits. A maximum/minimum odometer distance reading will also be enforced, to ensure the course was followed. Fuel economy will be recorded by the vehicle's factory equipment, unless another method is chosen by the MPG Challenge Committee. MPG Challenge officials do not object to a Can-View device or Scan-Gauge device or other similar device being installed in the car as long as the OBDII port is accessible to officials for affixing monitoring equipment for the duration of the route. To calculate fuel efficiency, MPG Challenge officials reserve the right to use the Can-View device or Scan-Gauge device or other similar device, or the vehicle's stock display. Divisions Drivers only compete against other vehicles within their division. Divisions subject to change.
The goal: Achieve the best percentage over the EPA's estimates for your vehicle, as compared to other cars within your division (see *Example below).
